Submission to the Inquiry into the Commonwealth Land (Affordable Housing) Bill 2026
This submission is informed by National Shelter’s longstanding policy and advocacy work on housing security, affordability, public, social and affordable housing supply, planning reform, value capture, and the role of government land in delivering long-term community benefit. It also draws on evidence from Australian and international jurisdictions that have successfully leveraged publicly owned land to increase affordable housing supply and create more inclusive communities.
