The National Organisation of Tenant Organisations (NATO), via the coordination of the Tenants Union of NSW (TUNSW), has been monitoring the roll out of the national moratorium on evictions. The National Cabinet passed the responsibility to states to implement the moratorium, which has seen a patchy range of measures differing in each state and implemented in some jurisdictions.

At this difficult time the Government’s emergency measures to support businesses and workers will bring much-needed relief to many Australians. Equally, it’s imperative that we plan now for a government-driven stimulus program to kickstart our country’s post-crisis recovery. The National Cabinet has declared a six-month moratorium on evictions from renting affecting both commercial and residential properties. This effectively moves the action to state governments who now need to enact legislation or rulings to cover the operation of their rental markets.
We were shocked to hear about plans by the Housing Authority in South Australia which will effectively end 40 years of continuous support for independent housing advocacy.

The Parliamentary Friends of Affordable Housing and Reducing Homelessness has now been re-established in the 46th Parliament. Each Parliament needs to refresh or renew its friendship groups and we're pleased this one has been re-established with support from all major parties.
Last week, the CCCLM hosted a national event at the Melbourne Town Hall, focussing on generating social and affordable housing in a bid to end homelessness. Prior to the event, the CCCLMs released a report citing National Shelter’s approach to repairing social housing investment.
