Reform of not-for-profit sector in the spotlight

On April 13, the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) agreed to work towards the effective regulation of Australia’s not-for-profit sector by setting up a Not-For-Profit Reform Working Group. Reviewing the legal, governance and reporting regulation of the sector, and developing a nationally consistent approach to fundraising regulation are amongst its proposed tasks. See the COAG meeting communiqué. Also, in March, the NSW Council of Social Service released an overview of the Commonwealth Government’s not-for-profit reform agenda. See the NCOSS briefing paper.
